Over the last few weeks we have received several phone calls and questions concerning how we at the Sheriff ’s Office get information out to the public in case of emergencies. Most of these concerns stem from the Memorial Day weekend sexual assault investigation near the Lazy Gators / Shady Gators entertainment complex. We would like to take this opportunity to explain some of the different ways the sheriff ’s office relays information to the public and how that information sharing can be a two way street for the public as well.

We would like everyone to know about the launch of our mobile website alongside the redesign of our current website. The mobile site is designed specifically for smart phone and mobile device users. The new mobile website provides easy access to the most popular content for site visitors including press releases and most wanted information. Site visitors can even submit a crime tip to the Sheriff ’s Office from their mobile device.

The mobile site is an abbreviated version of the Sheriff ’s Office full website. The mobile site is compatible with virtually all phones and mobile devices:

• Blackberry

• iPhone

• Windows phone

• Android phone iPad, and other types of tablets.

To access the mobile site, simply visit the web address of the Sheriff ’s Office www.CamdenCountyMOSheriff.org using the smart phone or tablet’s Internet browser.

We have also added a poll feature to our website’s home page. When there is an active poll, the public will have the ability to submit their opinions on questions posed by the Sheriff ’s Office.

There is also a link to SafeTown on the website, a web- based platform that allows interaction between the public and the Sheriff ’s Office. Citizens will be able to view current inmates, report traffic incidents, suspicious activity, animal issues, roadway hazards, and other information. Additional features will be added during the year as we continue to work out the bugs in the system and make it work in real time. Access is available either by going online to https://camdenmo.safetown.org or by downloading the Safe Town App available on the Apple Store or Google Play for Android devices. Using social media, SafeTown and the redesigned website will help us get information out to the public when it is prudent to release it.

As far as the ongoing sexual assault investigation from Memorial Day weekend is concerned, we want the people to know the investigation is progressing and we are working on several leads to help identify a suspect.

It is important to remember that during an investigation, there is some information that cannot be released because it may jeopardize the successful completion of that investigation.

If there is ever a credible threat to public safety, our department will make sure that information is available to the public either through radio broadcast, our online efforts, or if need be, door to door contact from a deputy.

Please feel free to contact the Sheriff ’s Office any time of the day at 573-346-2243 or by email at sheriff@camdenmo.org.
